X-Press Feeders to Fuel European Fleet with Green Methanol in 2024

Singapore-based container shipper X-Press Feeders plans to use green methanol bunker for part of its fleet in Europe starting in the second quarter of 2024. The move aligns with the European Union's extension of its Emissions Trading System (ETS) to cover CO2 emissions for ships entering EU ports. X-Press Feeders has ordered 14 dual-fuel ships capable of burning both methanol and conventional bunker fuel, with the first vessel, Eco Maestro, expected to sail from Shanghai to Rotterdam using green methanol. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 65% compared to conventional fuels, although securing sufficient methanol supply remains a challenge.
