Swiss marine power company WinGD is set to implement its groundbreaking Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) technology on two new dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels for NYK Line. The technology, developed in collaboration with Mitsui E&S DU, allows dynamic optimization of combustion based on the fuel in use, resulting in improved emissions, fuel economy, and flexibility. The VCR technology, applied to a 95,000 DWT bulk carrier and a 7,000 CEU pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), marks a significant advancement in two-stroke engine design. Expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, these vessels showcase the potential of VCR to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with estimated annual savings equivalent to taking hundreds of passenger cars off the road. The deployment highlights the success of WinGD's collaboration with NYK Line in sustainable and innovative projects.
