Vale's Port of Tubarão Welcomes Maiden Voyage of Berge Olympus with WindWings

The Port of Tubarão in Vitória, Brazil, received the maiden voyage of the Berge Olympus, a Newcastlemax bulk carrier equipped with innovative WindWings. Developed by Berge Bulk, each of the four large, rigid wings, known as BARTech WindWings, utilizes wind energy to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The vessel's deployment is part of Berge Bulk's commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2025. The WindWings are expected to save up to 6 tonnes of fuel per day and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 19.5 tonnes per day. Vale, the port operator, supports environmental initiatives to achieve IMO's decarbonization targets.
