The Sarawak Legislative Assembly has been informed that the state government aims to complete the takeover process of Bintulu Port from the federal government by July 2024. Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, mentioned that the state government is actively preparing the necessary legal provisions and arrangements to facilitate the transition. The move is seen as part of Sarawak's desire to reclaim its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963. Despite the change in administration, the transition is expected to ensure the seamless operation of the strategically vital federal port, contributing to Sarawak's economic ecosystem.
