MAN Energy Solutions to Introduce Dual-Fuel Methanol Engine by 2026

MAN Energy Solutions has announced plans to launch a dual-fuel version of its MAN 175D high-speed engine, capable of operating on methanol, by the end of 2026. The new variant, designated MAN 175DF-M, will be available for both newbuild and retrofit applications. The engine has already received the 'fuel ready' certificate from DNV, ensuring the introduction of this dual-fuel methanol technology. MAN Energy Solutions aims to optimize the 175DF-M for diesel-mechanical and diesel-electric propulsion to achieve maximum methanol share and efficiency across various applications and load profiles. The development includes the use of Port Fuel Injection (PFI) combustion technology, with fundamental combustion development scheduled for 2024 and a first field-test expected in 2026. The company anticipates the MAN 175DF-M engine to be ready for sales release by the end of 2026, providing a sustainable and flexible solution for the maritime industry.
