India's Galathea Bay Transshipment Port Set for Construction in 2024

ndia's Shipping Ministry aims to commence construction of the international transshipment port at Galathea Bay, Great Nicobar island, in the Bay of Bengal, in the coming year. Estimated at ₹44,000 crore, the port will be developed in four phases on a public-private partnership basis, with a total capacity of 16 million TEUs. The first phase, operational by 2028, is expected to handle nearly 4 million TEUs and serve as a feeder between Singapore and Colombo. Interest from international players, including Adani Ports and SEZ and Royal Boskalis Westminister, has been noted.
