After more than 15 years of planning, the Port of Long Beach is set to begin construction on its $1.567 billion Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility. The state-of-the-art facility, expected to be completed in 2032, will more than double the size of the existing rail yard and triple the on-dock rail cargo volume. The facility aims to increase cargo movement efficiency, reduce emissions, and streamline container movement by rail. The Port has invested $140 million in pre-construction tasks, with a significant focus on environmental considerations and green infrastructure. The construction will be executed through multiple projects, starting with the East Expansion segment.
