In November 2023, the Global Container Port Throughput Index experienced a 1.9% increase due to a rise in volumes, particularly in North America, Greater China, and Asia (excluding China) in September. However, a subsequent reduction in port calls in October led to an 8.4% monthly and 3.4% yearly decline.


The Asia (excluding China) Container Port Throughput Index reached new highs in September, with a 2.6% increase to 109.5 points, surpassing the previous year by 7.4%. Despite a global average growth rate of -0.8%, the region exhibited a slightly better performance with a rolling 12-month average growth rate of -0.5%. Drewry's Nowcast Model predicts a significant 8.6% month-on-month decrease in October 2023.


North America experienced a 7.4% monthly rise in the Container Port Throughput Index in September, reaching 109.1 points. However, this remained 1.5% lower than September 2022, with a notable negative rolling 12-month average growth rate of -12.5%, well below the global average.


In Europe, the Container Port Throughput Index rose by 1.2% in September but remained 0.7
